Ismael Ruiz Hernandez, known as Maelo , was born on October 22, 1966 in New York and moved to 4 years with his family to the town of Caguas , Puerto Rico. Maelo Ruiz begins his musical career at age 8 singing in local Talent Shows, in the beautiful " Island of Enchantment " , Puerto Rico. At 16 Maelo starts singing at the Free School of Music of Caguas under the direction of Juan Pacheco. At 14 years old he began his studies at the Free School of Music under the support of the teacher and trumpeter Juan Pacheco , who was the music director of the orchestra tremendísima " Borincuba " the great singer Justo Betancourt. In this school , under the tutelage of Master Pacheco , Maelo participated in songs of singers like Santos Colon , Justo Betancourt , Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez , Hector Lavoe and others.
